Pages 6 and 7
I believe that Connor Grennan's initial reason for going to Nepal was to try something new and with good intentions of helping out in a third world country. After years of working in Brussels and Prague he also wanted to do something selfless and immerse himself in a completely different culture. He had nothing tying him down when he made the concious decision to volunteer in an orphanage. He was not married and had no specific plans of becoming a father, and this is why he decided to take such a plunge.
Pages 53-55
In these pages Connor is bidding goodnight one last time to the children he has been caring for in the orphanage. All along he had planned to leave for home on the date he originally set for departure, but as the children begged him for an answer of when he would return he began to doubt his decision to leave at all. He was told not to give the children any one answer of his return but after a harsh realization that he would no longer be seeing them on a daily basis, he confirmed with them that he would be back in a year.
